The International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) created technical committee TC111 in 2004 to address a standardization gap in emerging environmental legislation of Electronic Equipment. There are no current recognized standards and practices required for implementation and enforcement of emerging environmental legislation restricting use of hazardous substances in electronic products and other Environmentally Conscious Design (ECD) requirements. Lack of standards creates uncertainty and risk for international trade. Environmental legislation is affecting electronic equipment producers selling into Europe, Japan, China, US and other regions. |
